A.Nelson Art
A contemporary creative practice that explores structure, memory and place.
BACKGROUND
Originally from the East Sussex coast near Brighton, I’ve long considered myself a free spirit. I am drawn to exploration, change, and the unknown. Three years ago, I settled on the Isle of Anglesey with my young family. The island's wild beauty has continued to influence my creative journey.
Art has become my sanctuary. I find it is a space to relax, reflect, and reconnect to myself. Art began as a personal escape from the trauma of the emergency frontline. It now has evolved into a dynamic creative practice. Using different mediums I look to find new ways to express emotion and respond to the world around me in a more abstract, intuitive form.
I’m deeply inspired by the works of Japanese ukiyo-e masters Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige, especially their use of geometric composition and the harmony they create between form and nature. My fascination with the interplay of shape and the natural world is also reflected in my admiration for Neolithic architecture - standing stones and circles that echo a quiet, reverent minimalism.
In my contemporary work, I draw from the raw, expressive energy of artists like Franz Kline, Pierre Soulages and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Their Raw unfiltered visual language inspire me to explore spontaneity, rhythm, and bold contrasts - imbuing my work with both emotional intensity and layered meaning.
At the heart of my practice is a desire to explore forms that feel both ancient and immediate—lines and shapes that hint at branches, hills, stones, and sky.
My art seeks to connect with something elemental and timeless.
Life has been a fascinating journey of change, discovery, and personal growth. I am excited to explore the limitless possibilities that creativity offers.
I am currently studying a BA Fine Art Hons Degree at Bangor, North Wales.
